SAPG reflections on 2025

In 2025, SAPG updated guidance and created new resources for frontline clinicians and patients across Scotland. SAPG engaged with stakeholders to ensure that these resources remained relevant and met their needs. SAPG held several subgroup meetings and held the SAPG annual networking event. The meetings and event had good attendance and high level of engagement.

In 2025, SAPG released the following resources:

Updated resources

  1. Clostridioides difficile (C.diff) infection (CDI)
  2. Good practice guidance on ratification of antimicrobial policies
  3. Secondary Care Antimicrobial Guidance for Antimicrobial Management Teams in NHS Scotland
  4. Surgical antibiotic prophylaxis in adults and children in NHS Scotland
  5. Good practice recommendations for re-dosing antibiotics for surgical prophylaxis in adults
  6. Out-patient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT) pathway for the management of adults with complicated skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI) affecting their upper or lower limb(s) or face (erysipelas)
  7. Management of recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI) in non-pregnant women

New resources

  1. Teicoplanin (daily dosing)
  2. Teicoplanin (three times weekly dosing)

National AMR targets

  1. Developed the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) National Action Plan (NAP) supplementary targets  

SAPG annual event

  1. SAPG held their annual networking event on the 28th of November 2025. The focus of the event on the “Next steps for Antimicrobial Stewardship in Scotland”. SAPG is collating and analysing the data from the event to guide the prioritisation of future SAPG activities.
